Opera 10 baby!! Woohooo!! Finally it was released this morning. I wrote a couple of posts back about the BETA version and man was it ever impressive. Aside from it performing at noticeable speeds, Opera has implemented a couple of new features that will soon be mimicked by the competition. (ie: SpeedDail for Firefox and even Safari 4 thumbnail bookmarks was obviously inspired by Opera). You now have the ability to make your tabs into thumbnails. Simply hover over the horizontal line under the tab and you’ll see the resize arrows appear and you can expand it down to a size you’d like. That’s nothing spectacular but it certainly is different. Another feature that some folks may not be aware of is Opera’s built in e-mail support. I DO use Gmail and I believe it is a wonderful product but I prefer to have a local copy of my emails. So for those of you who are like me, Opera really works out if you need a light-weight email client. Opera also has a built in BitTorrent client for those users who download torrents. I personally use newsgroups but sometimes bitTorrents can come in handy when you’re in a pinch. For us web developers don’t judge so quickly. Opera, along with IE, haven’t had much in terms of developers tools. Well guess what spanky? Opera has been packaged with its own version of Firebug named DragonFly. Sounds sexy as hell if you ask me. But seriously, it’s worth checking out for sure. You can do EVERYTHING with DragonFly as you can with Firebug. Read this article for more information on DragonFly. I suggest people give Opera a shot. It IS the oldest Web Browser in the game and a leader in web browser technology…they just don’t market themselves well AT ALL. C’mon Opera!!! Get a new logo or something at least!
