  • From Google’s official blog: Buzz, Code Search, iGoogle’s social features just to name a few.

I don’t believe this will reflect negatively on Google. One thing I love about Google is their appreciation for great ideas. They even give their engineers one day a week to work on a personal idea. That’s how Google Maps came about…as a bet!!

  • Dual Core. Quad Core. Now they are 8 cores per CPU. It’s actually pretty amazing when you think about it.

This article isn’t about the number of cores though, it is more about how the web browser will now have the ability, as do native applications in the OS, to use all the cores available to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

That’s a HUGE step in the right direction and it’s very exciting, because now developers can move forward and build more complex applications that will strictly live on the web.

Read about Intel’s Parallel Extensions for JavaScript. For us developers, this is certainly exciting news

  • YouTube has announced that, moving forward, ALL user videos will be transcoded using the WebM codec, which is awesome because, from my knowledge, this is the first online media giant to break away from the crazy patents and ridiculous licenses that came along with the MPEG codec.

This is basically an effort by Google to promote royalty-free video technology on the web.
